Spiritual discipline is of two kind. One of them is practiced with the body, senses, mind and intellect while the other by establishing direct affinity for God.
Yoga has been glorified in the Gita. Yoga means equanimity. Have your aim to attain equanimity at the outset even though you may not practice it. Similarly in the discipline of Devotion take refuge in God even if you don't realize that you have taken refuge. In the same way in the Discipline of knowledge you should realize that the self is real. In the disciplines of action and Devotion there is need of determinate intellect while in the discipline of knowledge there is need of realization. Thus though there is a difference between the two,yet both of them bear the same fruit without doubt. In the discipline of knowledge a strives remains established in the self which is free from all modifications and thus he attains perfection more quickly than he attains by following the systematic process of 'Sravana' (hearing of Vedantic texts and scriptures),'Manana'(cognition or reflection ) and 'Nididhyasana'(profound meditation ). In this process a striver has affinity for the insentient for long. Therefore, those who want to attain God by following the discipline of meditation will attain Him but they will have affinity for the insentient for long. but in the discipline of action, Knowledge and Devotion, depicted in the Gita there is no need of the insentient.
